Because the idea of a car designed to be as quiet and comfortable
as possible made l
ouder and less comfortable
for no real benefit
so hilarious as a basic concept to me that I think I kind of need one.

If it came with a manual trans I might want one. I’ve always wanted to put coilovers, beefy sways, sticky tires on a malaise era barge. Just have to look out for those sneaky FWD in disguise barges

Instead go buy a 1500 dollar 98 deVille rice the shit out of it. Wing, wheels, lowering, replace the seats with red corvette seats, diy cold air intake, replace the muffler with... nothing. Basically smash these together
Same basic concept, at about 1/10 the price.

Excellent. He’ll be the hero at Cars & Coffee for sure.

Sadly, I will never be the hero at my local cars and coffee because my local cars and coffee has a guy who always brings his Trabant.
And while I don’t have definitive proof of this, I’m pretty sure it’s the same guy who drives a Polski-Fiat 126 with studded tires as his winter beater. Since honestly who else could it be?

Except for having a face that looks like it was burned in a fire, it’s not a terrible car.

I knew a guy who had essentially the DeVille you describe in about 2006. It had about a billion miles and was a total POS, sounded mean, leaked oil and coolant in nearly equal amounts (but the head gaskets were fine). It was Mary-Kay Pink (NOT it’s original color) and had hand painted (like brush, with no masking) racing stripes and a shitty Honda-ricer-style eBay wing. The wheels were stock fake-wire though.
It was a marvelous heap. Still a comfortable cruiser as long as you could stand the smells of oil and coolant and the constant gargley drone of the straight pipes... who am I kidding it was awful. I have no idea why I can’t find pictures or video of it, because I certainly took plenty of both.

Maybe if they just continued making this and possibly making it global.

Unbelievably, there were actually a couple companies making body kits for the Seville

I mean, the base STS was pretty bad lookin’. Propper baller, y’k now. I can see a kit for those selling.

I imagine that’s be a pretty hot car to hacw in Europe back in the day. Or even now. Just because they have to be pretty rare

Also I’m pretty sure are those actually E49 headlights retrofitted in different housings.

But how often does he actually make it to cars and coffee?

Wrong? no. Weird? maybe.
now let me get back to my “F-150 handling/track package” proposal ;)

There is nothing wrong with that :o)
Toyota offered their supercharger for the 1MZ for a reason ;)
And Edelbrock makes a supercharger for the 2GR as well (Lotus E
vora)

I know this is about the Avalon, but my general feeling about the Camry applies as well: there’s nothing about it that a 6MT couldn’t fix.
A Camry XSE or SE or TRD or whatever with a manual isn’t perfect, but it would really check A LOT of boxes

Sadly, I think the Mark X has been discontinued altogether. I think they made few enough of those that they could be eligible for Show & Display in the US though, if someone really, really wants one. It shouldn’t be that hard to make it US legal since they share a chassis with the Lexus IS.

Hah!!! Every time I see them on the internet I think “Jesus Toyota...what the hell?” And then a tiny voice in my head says “but...but that looks kinda cool no?”
I think I’m being fooled by the frankly awesome shade of red combined with all the blacked out badging. Overall kind of an ugly design, but we’re not used to seeing it in such nice color tones.
Not that explains the other voice in my head right now saying “quit lying, you kind of want to try driving that”

You may want to get tested for coronavirus. I understand a loss of taste is a symptom.

Like every time. I mean, Trabants are reliable as hell because they have like maybe 6 moving parts.
What’s great is I live in one of the wealthiest counties in the country, so the local c&c is just a sea of incredibly high end shit, but the Trabant is the one everyone is drawn to.

I have never understood a well optioned Avalon, what is the cost VS a Lexus? I see tons of Lexus here and almost never see an Avalon. The new Camry is pretty nice and they are all over too.

This is how I found out how they are to drive. I live in Marin, we have some crazy stuff that comes to C&C but we have creative movie people with e clectic stuff, but no Trabby!

They start at around 5 grand cheaper than the ES, in both standard and hybrid configurations, with the fully optioned out top trim level of the both version of the Avalon topping out at about a grand less than where the top trim level ES starts.
So you do save money, but the real reason why people would get one over the ES is because the ES is very much
a modern luxury car, meaning that it’s full of giant screens and all sorts of technology, whereas the Avalon is simple. Basically what I’m saying is it’s the Japanese luxury sedan for people who say “where did it go?” when you hand them your smartphone to show them a picture and the screen goes dark before they have a chance to put on their reading glasses.

The Mark X is one of those missed opportunity cars that stayed in Japan which
should have gone global instead of the inferior car that the rest of the world got. When the Altezza died the IS should have become a rebadged Mark X.
